GT History

The Gujarat Titans (GT) is a franchise cricket team in the Indian Premier League (IPL), founded in 2021 and based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The team is owned by CVC Capital Partners. Gujarat Titans made an impressive debut by winning the IPL title in their inaugural season in 2022. Since then, they have remained a strong and competitive team in the league.

In August 2021, the IPL Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) invited tenders for two new franchises. A total of 22 companies expressed interest, but due to the high base price, only six serious bidders emerged. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) permitted consortiums of up to three entities or individuals to bid for each franchise. Ultimately, CVC Capital Partners, a British private equity and investment firm, secured the rights to the Ahmedabad-based franchise with a winning bid of INR 5,625 crores.
