MS Dhoni Returns as Captain for Chennai Super Kings (Rumors)
Former CSK captain MS Dhoni is set to lead the team once again in the CSK vs DC match at Chepauk on Saturday, with Ruturaj Gaikwad unavailable. The five-time IPL-winning captain will take charge once again in Gaikwad’s absence.
MS Dhoni retained him as an uncapped player for IPL 2025. He could return to captain the Chennai Super Kings against the Delhi Capitals on Saturday, April 5, in IPL 2025.
Ruturaj Gaikwad Injury
Ruturaj Gaikwad sustained a blow to his right forearm during CSK’s last match against Rajasthan Royals after being struck by a vicious bouncer from former CSK player Tushar Deshpande. This injury could sideline him for the next few games.
“He is going to try and have a bat today in training. It is still a little bit sore, but it is improving every day. We are very confident that he will be fine for tomorrow,” Hussey said

When asked about who could captain the team in Gaikwad’s absence, Hussey said he hadn’t thought about it before hinting at Dhoni’s name.
“I’m not sure, actually. I don’t think we’ve actually thought about that too much. Well, I haven’t thought about it too much. I’m sure (head coach, Stephen) Fleming and Rutu (Ruturaj) have thought about that. But we’ve got some young guy coming through. He’s behind the stumps. Maybe he can do a good job. I’m not sure. He’s got a bit of experience in the role, so maybe he could do it. But I’m not exactly sure, to be honest,” – Hussey said
